Brewery: Brasserie Fantôme |
Name of Beer: Dark Forest Ghost |
Beer Style: Saison |
Description: Once described as a Belgian Irish-style stout, Black Ghost has undergone lots of changes over the years. It now bears no resemblance whatsoever to a stout, and brewer Dany Prignon has begun adding spices to the beer. What they are is anybody’s guess . . . . the Fantôme confounds once again. Brewery: Brasserie Fantôme |
Name of Beer: Saison |
Beer Style: Saison |
Description: Fruity, complex saison beer from the Ardennes forest from a tiny farmhouse brewery very hard to find even in Belgium. 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. “Absolutely gorgeous, complex summer refresher with enough interest to drink all year-round.” (The Beers of Wallonia). Both authors give this beer a perfect 10. We would not give it a 10 (even if we knew what that meant) but there are drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly, no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness. |

Brewery: Boulevard Brewing Company |
Name of Beer: Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad |
Beer Style: Quadrupel |
Description: Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel's share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore. |

Brewery: New Belgium |
Name of Beer: Lips of Faith Terroir 2016 |
Beer Style: Sour Ale |
Description: Le Terroir is a french term meaning “of the earth." Used to reference the environmental conditions that affect the brew, we like to think about the terroir of our foeders. These wooden barrels age our sour beer in varying temperatures, humidity, and vibrations. The terroir of New Belgium, so to speak. Add in another variable by dry-hopping with peachy, mango-like Amarillo hops, and we created a beer that changes every time we brew it. |

Brewery: Stone Brewing Company |
Name of Beer: 20th Anniversary Citracado IPA |
Beer Style: Double IPA |
Description: For 20 years our passion for brewing and our obsession with hops have challenged traditional styles and expectations for beer. So it’s only fitting we commemorate this momentous occasion by crafting a liquid ode to bold brewing that satisfies your hop thirst and pays homage to our flagship San Diego brewery, located on Citracado Parkway (which itself pays homage to the citrus and avocado agricultural history of the region). “Citracado” also teases the two key ingredients of this beer. “Citra” refers both to the juicy gem of a hop and its citrusy (and tropical) aromas and flavors. “Cado” inspired us to utilize wonderful, native avocado flower honey. Combine the two and the result pours like silk and abounds with enough hops to match our excitement for reaching this 20-year milestone. We thank you sincerely for the years of support and pledge that we will, as always, strive to live up to the reasons for your loyalty! |

Brewery: Bur Oak Brewing Company |
Name of Beer: Golden Ryetio |
Beer Style: Belgian-Style Ale |
Description: Our brand new Golden Ryetio is a nod to the Golden Ratio found in nature and design (and now beer). The Fibonacci sequence inspired the grain bill (which includes rye malt) for this mildly sweet and well-balanced Belgian style ale. (And yes, we are aware that we are nerds. You'll thank us when you try this beer.) |

Brewery: Stone Brewing Company |
Name of Beer: 02.02.02. Vertical Epic |
Beer Style: Belgian Strong Ale |
Description: What about Stone Vertical Epic Ale 01.01.01? Well, there are two reasons for its non-existence: (1) We didn't want to participate in the whole overhyped media nonsense of "Millennium this" and "Millennium that," and (2) we didn't think of the Stone Vertical Epic Ale idea until the fall of 2001 (which was already too late for a 01.01.01 version.) Sure, we could wait until the year 3001 to start this series, but we were afraid that with all that time between now and the next millennium, we might forget. Besides, that millennium will probably be overhyped as much as the last one. |
