Brewery: Modern Brewery |
Location: St. Louis, MO |
Name of Beer: Fruits du Labeur |
Beer Style: Belgian Style Barrel Aged Wild Fruit Ale |
ABV: 7.0% |
Our Thoughts: Hot damn this one sounds tasty. It's a wine barrel aged Beglian style ale that was fermented with brett and has pomegranate added. Is this real life? Oh, and they teamed up with The Saint Louis Hop Shop to get this one to you. That's two local STL companies in one beer. If you don't drink this, it will make The Arch sad. |
Brewery: Logboat Brewing Company |
Location: Columbia, MO |
Name of Beer: Jerk Alert |
Beer Style: Double IPA |
ABV: 8.5% |
Our Thoughts: We've reviewed our share of Logboat beers and haven't hit a bad one yet. The idea that they're going to be throwing a double IPA at us is pretty intriguing. While their single IPA, Snapper was delicious, we liked their pale ale a little bit more. However, if there's one thing they're proving they can knock out of the park, it's big beers. This is one you can guarantee you'll see a review of when it hits shelves. |
Brewery: Civil Life Brewing Company |
Location: St. Louis, MO |
Name of Beer: Craft Beer |
Beer Style: Session Ale |
ABV: n/a |
Our Thoughts: Alright, we'll admit that the deets on this one are little scarce. From the label, we know the following: This will be a "malt-driven, golden session ale with lemon citrus hop notes." A Civil Life beer that's malt driven? Get outta here! However, this is the second label we've seen for their cans which would get us excited even if the beer were called "crap beer" and was made with those crazy coffee beans that monkeys poop out. This officially took an awkward turn. |
Brewery: Schlafly Beer |
Location: St. Louis, MO |
Name of Beer: The Variant |
Beer Style: Imperial Stout aged in Port Barrels with Cocoa Nibs |
ABV: 9.4% |
Our Thoughts: The beer gods are gracing us with another beer in the IBEX series. First there was Lazy Ballerina, then Eleventh Labor and now this? I've said it a million times now: local people overlook Schlafly. Cut it out you guys. They're doing some great new things and if this beer is like their other two IBEX releases, it's sure to be damn good. |
Brewery: Schlafly Beer |
Location: St. Louis, MO |
Name of Beer: Watermelon Lager |
Beer Style: Fruit Beer |
ABV: 4.5% |
Our Thoughts: There are a handful of commercial examples of watermelon beers (one local favorite is the Watermelon Wheat from Exit 6 in Cottleville) but doing this one as a lager is going to please a lot of people. A lager will let the fruit shine a little more brightly than an ale would. Hopefully they use real watermelon in some amount so that it's not as syrupy as some extract beers tend to be. We'll definitely buy a pint to see what's doin'. |
Brewery: Schlafly Beer |
Location: St. Louis, MO |
Name of Beer: Apricot IPA |
Beer Style: American IPA with Apricots |
ABV: 5.0% |
Our Thoughts: We've already reviewed their other recent fruit IPA, Grapefruit IPA and we're a little more excited about this one. There are other prominent grapefruit IPAs on the market so that one had to meet expectations. This one gets to stand on its own and as far as fruit beers go, apricots add some great things. As a bonus, they are using apricot puree, not an extract so that's always a plus. |
Brewery: Schlafly Beer |
Location: St. Louis, MO |
Name of Beer: Peach Saison Ale |
Beer Style: Peach Saison |
ABV: 6.0% |
Our Thoughts: So 3 out of 4 of these new Schlafly beers are fruited up. Of those three, we're most excited about the Apricot IPA, but this one may be a close second. They're gonna take a cloudy wheat beer and add peaches, bump up the ABV to a solid 6.0% and mix in some saison yeast? Schlafly, you done got us again. |
