Brewery: Torn Label Brewing Company |
Location: Kansas City, MO |
Name of Beer: House Brew |
Beer Style: Coffee Wheat Stout |
ABV: 6.5% |
Our Thoughts: Torn Label doesn't distribute here but by golly they need to. This beer is proof of that sentiment. A coffee stout is nothing new but they've added some wheat to the grain bill to give it an even bigger mouthfeel. The coffee they use comes from Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters in KC so they're keeping it local and that's something we love to see. It's been on draft for a while but it's gonna be great to get it in a can or bottle. All in all, I'd say it's time for a road trip to KC. |

Brewery: Bur Oak Brewing Company |
Location: Columbia, MO |
Name of Beer: Clyde's Cream Ale |
Beer Style: Caramel Cream Ale |
ABV: 5.7% |
Our Thoughts: Named after a brewery cat that was rescued, this Cream Ale comes with a caramel twist. No caramel is used in the brew itself, however the caramel malts lend their sweetness to the brew. While this style typically has big corn aromas and flavor (because flaked maize is part of the recipe) we think that the caramel malts will help tone those down to make this beer more approachable. It's something we're definitely looking forward to. |

Brewery: Urban Chestnut Brewing Company |
Location: St. Louis, MO |
Name of Beer: Hopswitch Triskel |
Beer Style: German Pilsner |
ABV: n/a |
Our Thoughts: Last week, we covered 2 of the "Hopswitch" beers that UCBC plans on getting out to consumers. This week, there are two more. This version of the beer uses Triskel hops which are an herbal French variety of hop known for its fruity citrus notes. Yes, please. |

Brewery: Urban Chestnut Brewing Company |
Location: St. Louis, MO |
Name of Beer: Hopswitch Amarillo |
Beer Style: German Pilsner |
ABV: n/a |
Our Thoughts: This version of Hopswitch uses the Amarillo hop exclusively. Amarillo is a floral American variety with notes of orange, tangerine and grapefruit. We've said it before and we'll say it again: Using different hops in a pilsner is a great way to introduce people to different hop flavors. This is a series we're really stoked for. |
