Brewery: Mark Twain
Location: Hannibal, MO
Name of Beer: Passport to Russia
Beer Style: Imperial Stout
Our Thoughts: Mark Twain actually lost his passport before visiting Russia in the 1860's and his arrival was accompanied by " fear and trembling...a vague, horrible apprehension that I was going to be found out and hanged." This beer will leave you feeling none of those emotions and probably the exact opposite. This Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels will be a hot commodity among beer enthusiasts and will shine a spotlight on this small brewery from Hannibal.
Location: St. Louis, MO
Name of Beer: Local Oak
Beer Style: Ale Aged in Oak
Our Thoughts: Schlafly is Missouri's largest locally owned independent brewery. Their commitment to local businesses is outstanding. From building relationships with local farmers and hosting a Farmer's Market to using locally sourced ingredients for their beers, they have proven they care about the community. This beer serves as another example. This ale is aged in Missouri White Oak tanks. The oak will impart many different flavors, from woody and nutty to sweet and earthy. We're excited to taste this truly local ale.
Brewery: Piney River
Location: Bucyrus, MO
Name of Beer: Chocolate Blonde Ale
Beer Style: Blonde Ale
Our Thoughts: Another edition of New Brew News and another new beer from Piney River. This week we're featuring their Chocolate Blonde Ale. This blonde ale with coca nibs is sure to blow a lot of minds with the aroma and flavor contrasting greatly with the appearance of the beer. While the color and body are those of a light blonde ale, you'll get the aroma and taste of chocolate, which usually occurs in bigger, darker beers like stouts and porters. Look for this on draft in the near future.
Location: Kansas City, MO
Name of Beer: Scotch on Scotch
Beer Style: Imperial Scotch Ale
Our Thoughts: Boulevard has been a staple of the Kansas City brewing community since 1989. They've built their reputation on crafting fresh, flavorful ales and lagers that appeal to both novices and craft beer aficionados. This beer will probably appeal more to the latter group. This oak aged imperial scotch ale is part of Boulevard's limited release series and is scheduled to be released in February of 2017. This boozy sipper will be perfect for sharing in front of the fireplace on a cold winter's night.
Location: St. Louis, MO
Name of Beer: Wetlook
Beer Style: IPA
Our Thoughts: This small brewery, located on Cherokee Street, recently celebrated their second anniversary with a killer party complete with food, cake, live music and of course, beer! Earthbound knows no limits when it comes to beer styles. They make everything from gruits and Bier De Gardes to porters and pale ales. This new IPA will be a nice addition to their eclectic lineup. Fresh (or wet hopped) IPAs typically use hops straight from the bine, sometimes making into the wort in less than 24 hours. This allows the ripe hops to flood your palate. With the popularity of hoppy beers being off the charts, we know this one won't last long. Stay vigilant.
