Brewery: Boulevard |
Location: Kansas City, MO |
Name of Beer: Spicy Rye Ale |
Beer Style: Rye Beer |
ABV: 5.3% |
Our Thoughts: Last week in New Brew News we featured Boulevard's Extra Pale Ale, one of their newest in the Tasting Room series of beers. This week brings us another addition to the series, a Spicy Rye Ale, which will only be available in the variety 12 packs. Boulevard is already well known for their rye beers, Rye-On-Rye and Rye-On-Rye-On-Rye probably being the most well known. While not as extreme as those beers, this will no doubt offer the same classic spicy rye flavors balanced by Azacca, Nelson Sauvin, Amarillo and Chinook hops. Brewery: White River |
Location: Springfield, MO |
Name of Beer: Queen City Hibiscus |
Beer Style: Belgian Style Golden Ale |
ABV: 5.7% |
Our Thoughts: Springfield's White River Brewing loves to take classic European beer styles and add an Ozark twist. This new beer is the perfect example. Queen City Hibiscus takes a Belgian Golden Ale and adds hibiscus for color and light tartness and tops if off with Mosaic hops, which can impart flavors as diverse as bubble gum, blueberry, tangerine and roses. No wonder it's a darling in the craft beer world lately. A great example of Old World and New World colliding, this will surely be a roller coaster of flavors. Look for cans of this on shelves soon. |

Brewery: Urban Chestnut |
Location: St. Louis, MO |
Name of Beer: Wolpertinger |
Beer Style: Barrel Aged Dark Ale with Raspberries |
ABV: ? |
Our Thoughts: Wolpertinger is not just a beer festival. It's also a beer. For it's annual anniversary party, Urban Chestnut brews this special release beer and tweaks the recipe a little bit each year. Look for a darker, more robust and slightly tart version this year, as it's been aged for two years in Scotch whiskey barrels and features the addition of raspberries. If you're going to the fest this Saturday at Urban Chestnut's Grove Brewery and Bierhall, this is a must try. If you can't make it, look for bottles at your favorite retailer in the next few weeks. Enter to win TWO tickets to this year's festival HERE. Contest ends at 11:59pm on Thursday, January 19. Good luck! |
