I saw her yesterday, actually. Hoping it's another 5 years before that happens again.

Aroma |
Yep, there's cherries in it! The cherry is very strong with a bit of a tang to it and you can smell it even before you can fully get your nose to the glass. Behind it lies chalky dark malts and some perceptible alcohol. Those dark malts are chocolate and carry with them a balancing sweetness. |
Appearance |
It pours a deep brown, almost black and it's opaque. The head is made up of tight, brown bubbles that start as a half inch cap and recede to a thin film with a ring around its edges. The lacing is insane. |
Flavor |
Well, that's interesting. The chocolate is big and with the cherries, it's almost like I bit into a chocolate cherry dump cake. There's a satisfying roastiness that works its way in to break up the cherry's tartness and right on the back of your tongue, there's a faint tobacco flavor. I'm also getting a hint of smokiness in it so there's quite a bit going on but it's actually very well balanced. |
Mouthfeel |
The body is medium+ and the carbonation is medium. While it's not "thick" or "chewy" it does coat your tongue and hangs on it long after you've taken your last sip. |
Overall Impression |
This is a phenomenal beer to pair with desserts. It's not one that I would just randomly pop open but I would absolutely buy it specifically for drinking with any chocolate dessert of any kind. The balance was great and as it warmed, the cherry because even more prominent although it never overwhelmed. I highly recommend grabbing a few of these to see how they taste with a dessert of your choosing. |
