Best Quote During Tasting
Bro, that's what sex swings are for.
Justin:
Aroma - Dark fruits, plums, raisins, roasted with low malts coming through. Not a lot of hops with a low level of citrus. |
Score: 8/12 |
Appearance - Tan head with a dark brown color to the beer itself. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Overall there's a nice balance. The beer is not overly hoppy which I kind of want more from in an IPA. The citrus from the hops plays well with the dark, roasty malts. |
Score: 14/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation with a medium body |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - We've already touched on Six Row and their "are we or aren't we still brewing" status. So, while this one impressed a lot more than their Whale, unfortunately you're not able to scoop it up at the store and you definitely can't score some from the brewery since there may not actually be one. |
Score: 7/10 |
Blake:
Aroma - Raisins and roastiness with a slight bit of floral hops. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - Pours dark, almost pitch black, with a nice mocha head on top. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - At first taste this has a bit in common with a lot of stouts, mainly the raisin, chocolate, and malt flavors that come through. However, there is a bit of tropical fruit that comes in from the hops that brings it back to its roots as a black IPA. |
Score: 15/20 |
Mouthfeel - Creamy, with medium body and medium carbonation. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - We didn't have a great time with Six Row's Whale Ale, but this was a much better showing for them. It walks a fine line of crossing styles, but ends up being a well balanced brew that hides a respectable ABV with some great flavors. |
Score: 8/10 |
