Justin:
Aroma - This one is billed as a "hoppy wheat beer" and it sure is. Citrus and pine dance with a little bit of earthiness and hops dominate the nose. There is still the white bread, crackery malt notes you expect from a wheat but the hops are what's doin'. You even get some resin and spice that sneak in on the back. It's quite nice. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - The beer is a cloudy straw gold in color with a soft, tightly bubbled head that stays a quarter of an inch thick the entire time you sip the beer. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - While it's well balanced, the hops again are the main focus in this one. At just 25 IBUs the hops aren't bitter but their flavor is big. The citrus stands out more than anything this time with tropical notes leading the way. The malts do a great job in keeping this one from getting out of hand and might even make this one a little sweeter than it needs to be. |
Score: 16/20 |
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is medium+ and the body is medium. It finishes clean and is semi-dry. |
Score: 3/5 |
Overall Impression - This is a great intro beer for folks afraid of hops. It's got a lot of the hop flavor but none of the big bitterness that turns people off. It's an awesome beer for the summer if you want something that goes down easy but isn't light on the palate. It is a little sweeter than I'd like it to be and the carbonation could've been a tad brighter but overall, it was enjoyable and refreshing. |
