Why does this remind me of eating Pringles?
Because you're weird.
Justin:
Aroma - The intial aroma is an earthy spiciness mixed with tangy mango. It's not overly sweet and there are no hops to be found but the malts that are there are bread dough and light bread. |
Score: 8/12 |
Appearance - It pours a cloudy medium gold with a thin white head that quickly leaves. |
Score: 2/3 |
Flavor - The same earthy spiciness (almost like a subtle white pepper) is found at the back of the tongue while mango entirely envelops the rest of the tongue. If it weren't for the carbonation, this would remind me of drinking a fresh squeezed juice. The malts are white bread and bread dough. |
Score: 15/20 |
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is medium + and the body is medium for a refreshing and slight creaminess. |
Score: 3/5 |
Overall Impression - While this beer met expectations, it didn't exceed them for me. And that's perfectly okay. I absolutely love what Schlafly has been up to lately. The packaging of this beer was phenomenal. The style was a complete stretch from what they typically do. Almost all of the stars aligned on this one. I think the yeast on this one could easily be swapped out to do something more with the flavor to give it the extra pop it was missing. |

Blake:
Aroma - Aroma is all grain and mango. The sweetness of the mango is someone subdued by the earthy notes of the wheat. The mango smells very juicy and inviting. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - Hazy gold with a thin white head that disappears about as quick as you can snap your fingers. |
Score: 2/3 |
Flavor - The mango that was very prominent in the nose isn't as prominent in the flavor. It's still there, but the base wheat beer really takes over with some earthy spice characteristics. White pepper and coriander seem to be the dominate spices. |
Score: 14/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation with a slightly thin body. |
Score: 3/5 |
Overall Impression - First off, the packaging for this beer was awesome. I love how Schlafly has been trying a lot of new things lately, and look forward to every new release now. Unfortunately, the beer wasn't able to live up to the beautiful packaging. Maybe it just wasn't for me? I think I would have enjoyed this one a lot more if it had more substantial mouthfeel and not felt a bit watered down. |
