I know how to say like 5 things in German. 4 are about sex and one is about beer.
Aroma - Big, deep caramel notes mix with spicy hops. The bread crust and toasted qualities that come from the malts are undeniable and there is even a little bit of dark fruit sweetness that sneaks in as well.
Appearance - A completely clear medium-amber beer comes with an off-white cap of foam that stays dense and a quarter inch high at all times.
Flavor - The toasted notes mentioned in the aroma are the biggest piece of the flavor. The caramel is now subdued and the hops are outmatched when it comes to bringing the beer into balance. It's sweet without approaching cloying and it also maintains the dark fruit (plum) character that was unexpected but not necessarily unwelcome.
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is medium+ and the body is medium. It finishes clean but sweet.
Overall Impression - It was good but sweet. I enjoyed the beer, don't get me wrong, but were it to have a little more hop character to bring it into balance, it would've been much better. It is crisp as hell but a few minutes after I quit drinking it, it was still coating my tongue. I would still put it on your list of beers to try this upcoming fall because it would pair really well with some roasted pork, sausages and...you know...most of the other German food they serve at Oktoberfest.
