Best Quote During Tasting
I could drink this, pee it out, and then drink it again.
Justin:
Aroma - Smells just like fresh ground coffee. The chocolate is right there with it making the battle a close call. Can't get past those two to get any malts. |
Score: 11/12 |
Appearance - This beer pours a crystal clear gold with a fluffy white head made up of tight bubbles that never leaves. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - It's got an earthy character from the coffee but it's a very heavy coffee flavor in general. The chocolate isn't sweet but it's there in a big way. Again, no malt notes but they're there for sweetness and they provide a great balance. |
Score: 18/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium+ body and medium carbonation make this one creamy which plays very well with the big chocolate. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - This isn't the first beer that took coffee or chocolate and added it to a light beer. However, it might be the best one I've ever had. It's totally shocks your senses when you see a light beer but then smell and taste these crazy flavors typically associated with dark beer. This is actually just a subtle pivot from a 750 ml beer they released last year called "King Kaya" which was a big hit. The recipe is the same except they used a different coffee in this one. I highly recommend this one. |

Blake:
Aroma - Cold brewed coffee and chocolate, with maybe a hint of something sweeter like vanilla. |
Score: 11/12 |
Appearance - Clear gold with a tall white head. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Once again, cold pressed coffee, with the chocolate coming out more than the nose. Maybe just a hint of pale malts, but really just there to balance things out. |
Score: 18/20 |
Mouthfeel - Surprisingly this one has a great body, not as heavy as a stout (which it almost taste like), but amps up the carbonation for a smooth mouthfeel. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - I've already picked up a six pack of this because I enjoy it so much. It's a great beer to let people try, because if you are judging by looks, you aren't expecting those flavors. I tried it side-by-side to some similar beers, and this one was the best of the bunch. |
