Best Quote During Tasting
I've seen Foreigner in concert. They literally only do the songs you wanna hear so it's pretty awesome.
Aroma - A unique blend of dark, chalky, chocolatey malts combine with citrus of orange and grapefruit. The small amount of roastiness that comes through also throws a curveball to your sniffer.
Appearance - The beer pours a deep brown and if held to the light, the center glows a ruby red. The head on this beer is dense and thick, made up of brown bubbles that cling to the glass.
Flavor - This one is incredibly easy to drink. The fruity hops balance the roasted, chocolate malts very well. The bitterness is also well hidden due to the malts that while roasted are still quite sweet. There's another flavor that I can almost place as slightly nutty but not in a peanut way. Finally, there's a great toasted or bread crust flavor that hits the back of your tongue and adds a new layer to the beer.
Mouthfeel - The carbonation medium and the body is medium+. The beer is actually quite creamy and coats your tongue.
Overall Impression - This might be one of the better Black IPAs I remember having. It's incredibly well balanced in that the bitterness is perfectly matched by the malt character of sweet and roasty. The amount of citrus in this dark beer also throws you for a loop but it's incredibly satisfying and darn delicious. I'm kind of upset I only bought six of these.
