Best Quote During Tasting
I work out so I can drink beer. The problem is that the calories I consume are typically 7-8 times more than what I burn.
Justin:
Aroma - Chocolate malt and grainy dark malts mix well and hit your first. Going back, I'm picking up some light caramel and some general sweetness that I can't place. I also get a bit of "tea" character. |
Score: 8/12 |
Appearance - The beer pours a deep brown, nearly black with ruby highlights in the thin spots of the glass it was poured in. The head is tan, thin and dissipates quickly. |
Score: 2/3 |
Flavor - The first thing I thought was "cocoa powder." There's a "dry" chocolate quality to it but in a good way. There is some milk chocolate and dark chocolate sweetness as well. There is some roastiness but it's very subtle and does a good job balancing out the sweetness. No hops. Nice, smooth finish. |
Score: 14/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation and medium body give this one a thin creaminess. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - It's great to have a stout that's not barrel aged or imperial. Don't get me wrong, I love those kinds of stouts, but keeping it simple works too. While I wouldn't run through the streets proclaiming the greatness of this porter, I would be happy to drink it at a restaurant or at home with a dessert. I don't see this one making its way into my fridge again but if you haven't tried it, make sure one finds its way into yours. |

Justin:
Aroma - It's pretty straightforward with dark malts producing chocolate and a very light roasty flavor. A little bit of caramel and toffee add just a bit more sweetness on top. |
Score: 8/12 |
Appearance - Deep brown with ruby highlights with a thin tan head that dissipates quickly. |
Score: 2/3 |
Flavor - Milk and dark chocolate are the prominent flavors here. Some slight bitterness from the roast balances the porter out. |
Score: 14/20 |
Mouthfeel - Light to medium body with medium carbonation. |
Score: 3/5 |
Overall Impression - It's a very straightforward chocolate porter. It isn't going to knock your socks off, but it's still a solid beer. If you are into beers with chocolate as a primary flavor, you'll likely want to pick this one up. |
Score: 7/10 |
