Yeah. The dog was at the Red Rocket Gas Station.
Justin:
Aroma - Bitterness from the malt hits you right up front. Distinct notes of chocolate with just a little bit of roastiness that's not quite coffee. No real hop presence. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - Deep, deep brown with ruby highlights, nearly black. Thin, tan head lingers. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Roasted flavors dominate. The balancing bitterness comes more from the malt than the hops. Slightly burnt flavors from the malt are there that verge on coffee but are better described as roasty. No real hop profile. |
Score: 16/20 |
Mouthfeel - High carbonation. It's got a low-medium body but it's nice for the style. Dry finish. |
Score: 3/5 |
Overall Impression - Most people think of Guinness for this style but the folks at Public House put together a delightful version right here in Missouri. Despite its intimidating appearance, I found this beer to be very drinkable. While I would enjoy the hell out of it when paired with a sweet dessert or even a steak, I don't think I could drink more than one on its own because it tires out your palate. |

Aroma - Lots of dark roasted malts, plenty of chocolate, and a bit of espresso/coffee. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - Dark with a creamy tan head. When held up to the light, the beer takes on a nice deep brown/amber color. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Dark chocolate with just a slight bite of bitterness from the roasted malts. Coffee drinkers should feel quite at home with the flavor of this beer. |
Score: 16/20 |
Mouthfeel - Creamy with a dry finish. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - This is my favorite beer from Public House. It's a fantastic representation of the style, and where it might deviate a bit is what makes it easy to drink. Still trying to convince your friend to drink stouts? Start with 4 Hands Chocolate Milk Stout, and then after a bit move them up to this. |

To me this is an ideal straightforward, everyday drinking kind of stout. No adjuncts, no barrels– just a nice, slightly bitter, quite roasty slice of heaven. This is by far Public House’s best offering out of a portfolio that seems to want to showcase regular styles.
