Best Quote During Tasting
I do it with my dad all the time....I get off on it.
Justin:
Aroma - The first thing I get is chocolate and whiskey (a strange yet perfect combo). That's followed with some subtle oak and, of course, coffee, |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - The beer pours a medium brown with a thin, beige head that quickly leaves. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - There is definitely some heat from alcohol, definite coffee, some chocolate, whisky, and not much oak. I also get just a little bit of the green pepper taste that comes with some coffee beers. |
Score: 17/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation, medium body and finishes sweet. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - I want to start by saying that I've never had the regular Okie. You can either hate me for reviewing a variant without having the base or you can just let it go, guys. Let's let it go. With that being said, I found it quite pleasant to drink. I kinda wish there was more coffee to it but the bourbon and oak were found in perfect amounts. I highly recommend this one if you can find it. |

Blake:
Aroma - Smells like someone put a shot of whiskey into some freshly ground coffee. There is also a fair amount of chocolate that really amps of the sweetness. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - Murky brown with a thin tan head that falls off rather quickly. |
Score: 2/3 |
Flavor - Once again the coffee is the most prominent part to this beer. Plenty of whiskey, oak, vanilla, and chocolate thrown in for good measures. |
Score: 17/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium+ body and medium carbonation. Very smooth. Very sweet finish. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - I think I might be a bit biased on this one. I bought myself a few bottles of regular Okie last year and had to buy it every time I saw it. The original might be one of the best brown ales I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. This one the coffee keeps a lot of the other notes from shining through as much. I still have a bottle left, so I'll try it again later this year, and see if the coffee dies down a bit and lets the other flavors and aromas come out to play a bit more. |
Score: 8/10 |
