Justin:
Aroma - Smells like VERY sweet grapefruit. There are some toasted bread and caramel notes from the malt. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - Not quite clear gold with a huge head. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Both grapefruit and spicy hops with some diacetly to it. Malty sweetness is there but it's definitely balanced toward the hops. |
Score: 14/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium+ body with low-medium carbonation. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - I haven't had a single beer from Pipeworks that has disappointed, however, this beer was the closest thing to it. I guess it's all relative since the beer scored a 3.9 out of 5 for me which isn't very low. During reviews, we utilize BJCP guidelines and I score accordingly. Therefore a beer might score a little higher than I would personally give it outside of the website. With all that being said, I think that most people would really enjoy this beer and would recommend forming an opinion for yourself. |

Blake:
Aroma - Juicy grapefruit and some sweeter fruits like peach and pineapple. A slight hint of caramel sweetness from the malt lingers on the aroma. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - Deep gold to light copper with a bit of haziness. Tall off-white head. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Juicy fruit covered in caramel malts. A bit of peppery spice from the hops and toasted bread from the malts. Slight bit of booze lingers at the end. |
Score: 16/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium body and medium carbonation. Bit of a dry finish. |
Score: 3/5 |
Overall Impression - I luckily didn't pick up the diacetyl that Justin did, which resulted in a higher score from me. All-in-all this was a really solid IPA. Not sure it's high enough on my list to try and take home on a trip from Chicago, but it's good enough to enjoy a pint if it is on tap somewhere. |
Score: 8/10 |
