Aroma - Cloves, allspice and cinnamon are the first things that waft out from the glass the beer was poured into. The malts are right behind with bread crust and some slight caramel as the main takeaways. There's even some vanilla that shows up which is unexpected but nice. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - The beer pours a clear medium amber with a thin, white head made up of small bubbles that cling to the glass. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - The spices of allspice and cinnamon are there but the cloves are by far the biggest. The sweet potatoes are actually perceptible and slightly earthy which helps to balance the sweet bread crust malts and baking spices. |
Score: 15/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium+ body with a medium carbonation really make this one feel smooth on the tongue. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - I really liked this one. I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin beers (which I know this isn't but...c'mon....amirite?.....c'mon) but this one was well balanced and extremely drinkable. The sweet potato really was a subtle twist despite it being far behind the baking spices in terms of flavor. This won't make haters of pumpkin beers change their mind but if you've been on the fence, this might be the one to make you find your favorite. |
