Justin:
Aroma - Sweet malts bring thoughts of white bread 10 minutes into cooking, before its crust fully forms. A strong presence of corn wafts off of the beer as well. There are actually some subtle fruity esters that mix with the malty sweetness. No real hop presence but if I look hard enough, there are some floral notes. |
Score: 8/12 |
Appearance - This one pours a clear, light gold with a thin, white head made up of tight, tiny bubbles. The head leaves nice lacing on the glass as it's sipped. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - There's a big corn presence in the flavor to where it may be the biggest flavor in the beer. The malts are again sweet and much like lightly cooked bread (communion wafers?) but are nicely balanced by the hops that provide bitterness but no real flavor. The aftertaste is all corn as well and the finish is just above semi-dry. |
Score: 14/20 |
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is medium and the body is a little above medium. It gives the beer a heaviness on the tongue. |
Score: 2/5 |
Overall Impression - We've reviewed quite a few beers from Piney River and I have to say this might be my least favorite. The mouthfeel wasn't to style, and it wasn't as crisp as the style allows for either. I can see this being a crowd pleaser and a nice summer beer for folks but I personally don't think I'd choose this one again. |

Blake:
Aroma - Lots of grainy notes and fruity esters. There is a fair amount of corn in the mix too, which only adds to some of the sweetness. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - Light gold with a thin white head that dissipated rather quickly. Lots of carbonation. |
Score: 2/3 |
Flavor -The mix of corn and light malts reminds me a bit of corn flakes. There is some bitterness from the hops, but overall this beer is all about the corn and grain/bread notes. |
Score: 14/20 |
Mouthfeel - Highly carbonated and the body is a bit thick for the style, but otherwise solid. |
Score: 3/5 |
Overall Impression - It wasn't perfect to style, but overall it is still a solid effort. It reminded me of an adjunct lager with just a bit more to it. Like Justin, this is probably my least favorite Piney River yet, but we have my favorite still on the way! |
