Justin:
Aroma - We tasted this side-by-side with the regular sump to give a true opinion between the two. The Burundi smelled like straight up cold brewed coffee. No caramel, no chocolate no nothin' but coffee. Awesome. |
Score: 11/12 |
Appearance - This one also pours motor oil black with the same thick, mocha head that lingers. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Good lawd. The dark roasted coffee is no joke. It's like a fresh cup of joe. I also get some burnt sugar or caramel along with the subtle vanilla maple of the original. |
Score: 19/20 |
Mouthfeel - The creaminess of this one is outstanding. Medium+ body with medium carbonation make this one velvety and amazing. |
Score: 5/5 |
Overall Impression - It wasn't a slaying, but the Burundi was my personal favorite and it came down to two things really: mouthfeel and that burnt sugar/caramel flavor. Those two things made this beer just....better in my opinion. Disagree? Great! Remember, these are opinions, not facts. Let me know in the comments what you thought! |

Blake:
Aroma - The Burundi variant has way more coffee roast than the regular Sump. It's a richer blend for sure. |
Score: 11/12 |
Appearance - Indistinguishable from the original. Deep dark brown, thick lacing, and a mocha head. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Deep roasted coffee dominates all, much like the aroma, but with a bit of caramel and chocolate sweetness. |
Score: 19/20 |
Mouthfeel - Full bodied, with smooth velvety texture. |
Score: 5/5 |
Overall Impression - I liked the deeper coffee flavor in this one. I still love the regular Sump, but I prefer my coffee beers to give off strong roasted flavors. You really can't go wrong with either of these, but if you can get your hands on a Burundi variant, do it! |
Score: 10/10 |
