Best Quote During Tasting
Have you ever just chugged the yeast starter?
Aroma - Smells exactly like a strawberry soda. It reminds me of a Shirley Temple but with strawberry grenadine. Very aromatic and all strawberry.
Appearance - A cloudy gold with a bright, sparkling, effervescent white head that dies off in just a matter of seconds.
Flavor - The strawberry absolutely jumps out in the flavor. It's got an artificial quality to it but it's not as fake as other fruit beers we've reviewed and it's sweet but not overly so. The back end is very grainy, bread crust and pie crust like. No perceptible hops and the finish has no sweetness and nearly no strawberry as well.
Mouthfeel - High in carbonation with a light-medium body.
Overall Impression - I'll tell you two things about this beer that you should know. The first thing is that personally, it's not my cup of tea. This isn't a beer I would typically order and it's not something I'd keep in my fridge. The second thing you should know is that I liked this a lot more than I thought I would and I bet O'Fallon will sell a ton of this. It's refreshing as hell and this summer, I could see myself pulling this out of a community cooler after a game of shirts and skins with Jeff and the gang.
Aroma - Lots of strawberry, almost to the point of smelling like a strawberry Fruit Roll-up. The big difference here is that there is a nice pale malt backbone. Not getting any hops though.
Appearance - Bright yellow with a head that dissipates quickly after the pour.
Flavor - Starts out with a lot of wheat beer characteristics, with a lot of breadiness from the pale malts. However, the strawberry dominates the taste, and finishes strong. It's a bit artificial in flavor, but it's not unappealing.
Mouthfeel - It's a bit thin on the body with medium carbonation. Carbonation could've been a bit more to give this a bit juicier feel.
Overall Impression - I had this last year, and I can tell you it's a really great beer to enjoy on a porch on a hot summer day. The strawberry is really refreshing in the beer, and I find it is appealing to a lot of people who don't normally like beer. Offer one to your friend who only drinks ciders and see if you can open their palate up a bit to more beer in the future.
