Best Quote During Tasting
If you know any singe ladies, let me know.
Will do, Beyonce.
Aroma - The first whiff is straight dankness with a little bit of sulfur. After that, the juicy hops come rolling in. Huge orange zest and grapefruit notes (a little pine sneaks in also). The malts are there trying to play their part and come across as very lightly toasted bread.
Appearance - Codename: Superfan is a hazy light gold beer with a thin white head that leaves quickly but lingers long enough to provide nice lacing in the glass.
Flavor - The flavor interestingly enough mimics the order I smelled things. First there's some resinous hops, then the pine and citrus come through. The citrus here doesn't taste as juicy as it smells but it's damn flavorful. The malts are there for balance and while providing a great platform to showcase the hops, the malt flavor is just slightly bready. The finish is semi-dry.
Mouthfeel - This one has a medium body and medium+ carbonation.
Overall Impression - The aroma set me up for something that I didn't get in the flavor and that was just straight up juiciness. Again, the flavor was GREAT but if it matched the intensity of the aroma it would've rated much, much higher. All that said, I loved the beer and if I were at a bar, I'd order more than one. If I were at the store, I'd grab a sixer no questions asked. We've got a couple more Odd13 beers to review (Thanks Patrick) and if they're anything like this one, I can't wait to try them.
Aroma - Great hop aroma with a good mixture of herbal dankness and juicy tropical fruits. Citrus mainly comes across in the aromas of orange, grapefruit, and pineapple. The malt is there, but hides subtly behind the strong aromas of the hops.
Appearance - Hazy gold with a thin white head that lasts for the duration of the beer and provides solid lacing.
Flavor - The flavor follows the aroma for sure. Still lots of herbal, floral, and pine notes from the hops, as well as a good heaping of citrus. The citrus isn't as dominate as it is in the aroma, and tends to get overshadowed by the more bitter hops.
Mouthfeel - Medium body with carbonation that gives it a smooth mouthfeel. Finish is bitter and semi-dry.
Overall Impression - There are so many great juicy and dank IPAs these days that it's getting to first world problem levels. The fact that on any given day I can't figure out which IPA I'd like to crush makes me a charity case. If this were available in my area it would likely earn a spot in my fridge from time to time. Don't pass up Odd13 if you are in Colorado. (Also, if you happen to be there, bring me back some beer.)
