Best Quote During Tasting
There's an easy way to fix that. Just pretend it's not yours and go to town.
Justin:
Aroma - Smells like some funk. It's definitely got more spicy, earthy, resinous and pine character than it does citrus. While the fruitiness of grapefruit and orange zest are there, they are much further back in line. The malt comes off as sweet caramel. |
Score: 8/12 |
Appearance - The beer pours a clear, deep gold with a thin white head that will never leave. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - It sure is juicy (mango and grapefruit). There's a little bit of alcohol present but the dank hops are the star of the show. It's very hop forward and while it's not out of balance or overly bitter, you can taste every single IBU. |
Score: 16/20 |
Mouthfeel - Low carbonation with a medium+ body gives this one a nice velvety texture. |
Score: 5/5 |
Overall Impression - I won't say that this is sessionable, but I could definitely crush multiples of this at a bar or at a party. The funk I got in the nose dissappeared after a minute or two so I'm still not quite sure what that was. While it's got a boatload of hop flavor and aroma, it's not overpowering which makes it very pleasant to drink. |

Blake:
Aroma - Juicy hops produce a heaping amount of grapefruit, mango, and other tropical fruits. There is also a lot of pine and dankness wafting up from this one. Sweetness from the malt distinguishes itself from the hops with hints of caramel. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - Deep dark gold, almost bordering on copper. A thin white head sits atop and leaves a fair amount of lacing behind. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - In the aroma I picked up more of the tropical notes from the hops, but those hit after I got a nice hit of dank grassy pine notes. There is a good malt backbone here that gives a bit of bread and caramel that mixes nicely with the strong hop profile. |
Score: 17/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium body with fine carbonation. Very smooth, almost creamy. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - New Orleans is a big drinking town. So, it's no surprise that they've got some solid craft brews. This was one of a number of NOLA Brewing beers I tried while visiting my family, and I was really pleased with it. |
Score: 8/10 |
