His birthday present shouldn't be a fart, you guys.
Oh, then my family's been doing it wrong.
Justin:
Aroma - The vanilla is very present with a nice nuttiness to back it up. The chocolate malts are there too, not to be left out. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - The beer is a deep brown with a HUGE, HUGE, brown head made up of small and large bubbles that cling to the glass. Very sticky and the lacing is out of control. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - The nuttiness is again big in the nose with an awesome sweet vanilla character. There is some big dark malt character of chocolate, slight coffee and big roast. |
Score: 18/20 |
Mouthfeel - The carbonation and body both clock in at medium for a nice creamy texture. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - This is the first beer I've had from Maine Beer and it really was delicious. I had no clue that they distributed to IL but now I'm glad that they do. The aromas and flavor matched up nicely and the balance was very enjoyable. |
Score: 9/10 |
Blake:
Aroma - Mean Old Tom is really sweet on the nose, mainly from the vanilla, but the chocolate adds a richer sweetness. There is a slight roast to the aroma that balances out what could almost be a cloying sweetness. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - Deep dark brown with a beautiful mocha head that lingers for ages. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Vanilla is all up in your grill. Just a huge amount of vanilla that is leveled out by some really rich chocolate and some roasted malts that give a nutty flavor as well. |
Score: 18/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, but surprisingly heavy for the ABV, and medium carbonation give this a velvety smooth finish. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - Wish I had bought more than one of these, but I was already over my beer budget. Since I'd rather my wife not murder me in my sleep I have to make do with one bottle. I'd love to pair this with a similarly rich dessert. If I happen to see this one again, I'll pick it up and save it for nice cold night with brownies à la Mode. |
Score: 9/10 |

Where locally can we get this one ?
Hey, Kevin. This one isn’t from Missouri (we review out of town beers Friday – Sunday). We got it in Chicago at a Binny’s which is a big chain of liquor stores. Thanks for asking!
