The name sums it up. This is a real Jerk of an IPA. Loaded up with galaxy hops this tropical, citrus bomb is the second beer of our small batch Delta Series.
Justin:
Aroma - Popping the can open brings bright, tropical fruit aromas to your nose. There is a bit of pear, a bit of grapefruit, a BIG blast of pineapple and even some slightly sweet grape. The malts break through, not content to let the hops steal the show. While they bring nice sweetness, they also carry along some wheat bread character. |
Appearance - The beer is a completely clear gold with a firm, white cap of foam that is a finger high and never fully breads apart. The head sticks to the side of the glass each time you take a sip leaving behind nice lacing. |
Flavor - This one is JUICY! The same citrus fruits again show up here with pineapple again leading the way and some peach and pear not far behind. The malts have a very faint caramel and are again mostly wheat bread with even a little bit of bread crust. At the back of your tongue, you even get a little bit of alcohol that isn't surprising at 8.5% ABV. The most striking thing about the beer is the balance. The balance is incredible because while it's bitter and will definitely satisfy hopheads, it does not drink like an imperial style of beer. |
Mouthfeel - The body is just above medium and the carbonation matches it. It coats your tongue when you first drink it in and it scrubs your tongue as you swallow, leaving you ready for the next sip. |
Overall Impression - I really hope this is the tip of the iceberg for Logboat's Delta Series. We've reviewed their Snapper IPA and while it was a great beer, I was hoping for a little more. This beer is a little more. It's a lot more. It's a phenomenally balanced beer and that's going to please a lot of people. People use "tropical fruit" as a common descriptor when speaking about hoppy beers (I absolutely do) but if you've never really been able to identify what that means, try this beer and you'll definitely understand. |
