Justin:
Aroma - Pine and resin are the big players on this one with spicy hops character coming in right behind. It's also got some citrus and melon character but it's in much smaller amounts. It's actually quite malty (caramel and bread crust) and sweet smelling. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - The beer pours a hazy gold with a thin off-white head that sticks around long after it's poured. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - The hops aren't as in your face as you'd expect from the aroma. It's hop forward but the balance makes this a close race. A little alcohol flavor is perceptible. There's a spiciness that reminds me of rye (could be hops) and it's got a crisp, semi-dry finish. |
Score: 16/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium body with medium carbonation that gives it a light creaminess. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - In a shocking twist, I preferred Logboat's APA over their IPA! BLASPHEMER! While this was a very good beer, it was missing some aggressive hop flavor that I got in the nose. Would I order this at a bar? 100%. Would I order more than one at a bar because I liked the first one? You betcha. Give it a shot when you're out west from the city. |

Blake:
Aroma - Juicy hops that produce tropical fruit notes, and lots of pine and resinous aromas. Malt backbone shines through pretty well with a hint of caramel sweetness. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - Deep hazy gold with a thin cream colored head. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Malt shines through much better in the flavor than in the aroma. The hops still produce that pine and resinous character, but the fruit notes from the hops are a bit more prominent. Grapefruit and peach produce some great sweet notes to match the bitterness present |
Score: 16/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium body and medium carbonation. |
Score: 3/5 |
Overall Impression - So far, I've yet to have a bad beer from Logboat. In fact, I've been so impressed lately that I'm trying to find a good afternoon to head down there to their taproom. This isn't a shoot for the moon type of beer, but it's great at what it does. Don't think you could ask for much more. |
