You tip a guy that delivers your pizza but you don't tip people that deliver your couch?
Justin:
Aroma - There's a nice mix of oak, vanilla, booze and chocolate. Once you get through that, some dark fruits like raisin and plum show up too. There's also a nice caramel/burnt sugar quality you can pick up. |
Score: 11/12 |
Appearance - This one is a deep, deep brown. It has a big medium-brown head that never leaves the entire time you drink the beer and it sticks to the glass forming brown webbing. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - There is a lot more in the flavor that I didn't get in the aroma. Lots of caramel, big maple syrup, and even a little coffee. There is definitely some slightly bitter roast notes that work well with the subtle bourbon you're able to pick up. It's definitely got some alcohol to it but it's not overwhelming. My favorite parts of the flavor are the brown sugar and burnt sugar that sweeten the beer just enough to make that booziness more mellow. |
Score: 18/20 |
Mouthfeel - The body is full and the carbonation is medium. It's smooth velvet. |
Score: 5/5 |
Overall Impression - Man. There were only 33 cases of this one made so I'm glad we got our hands on it. As we've said repeatedly, we're impressed with almost everything that Logboat does and this is no exception. The regular Imperial March is a phenomenal beer on its own but this takes it up a notch. The roast flavors in this version are mores subdued but the barrel character makes it creamy and sweet without being cloying. Somebody get Logboat more barrels so they can fill them with more deliciousness. |
