Justin:
Aroma - The initial aroma reminds me of a black cherry soda. There's some effervescent blackberry and almost a vanilla type of sweetness that's right behind it that adds to the flavored soda aroma. Not getting any real malt or hop presence. |
Score: 7/12 |
Appearance - This one pours a completely clear pale gold with a thin, off-white head that dissipates quickly, leaving a thin, sparkling film on top of the beer. |
Score: 2/3 |
Flavor - There's a whole lot of blackberry in this one and it tastes like extract. It's artificial and somewhat overpowering. It's sweet but not overly so and again, it's hard to find malts or hops in this one. |
Score: 13/20 |
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is high and the body is medium so it's a little thinner than I would hope for the style. |
Score: 2/5 |
Overall Impression - I've had this beer on draft at the brewery on a hot day and boy does it quench your thirst. With that being said, the blackberry extract used in this one does more than add flavor, it takes control over everything else. This is the third beer that we've reviewed from Kirkwood Station and the other two scored higher and I would take them over this one every time. |

Blake:
Aroma - Blackberry hits you right up front with a fair amount of wheat presence. Reminds me almost of a blackberry/blueberry scone. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - Clear pale yellow with a bubbly head with a fair amount of retention. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - It's initially all sweet, and the fruit comes across as a bit artificial. However, it blends nicely enough with the base wheat beer. The wheat produces a white bread like quality that evens out some of the artificial sweetness. |
Score: 15/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium body and some hefty carbonation. |
Score: 3/5 |
Overall Impression - It isn't my favorite fruited wheat beer, but overall you can see why it is one of Kirkwood Station's more popular beers. If I were to try and improve it I'd probably up the malt presence and try and make the extract not taste as artificial. |
Score: 7/10 |
