That sand they have for the Olympic volleyball that doesn't stick to you is awesome.
I watched beach volleyball and the last thing I thought about was the sand.
Justin:
Aroma - Pine, resin and sweet caramel and bread crust malts all jump out of the glass on this one. There's also some nice woody and floral notes to the hops that round it all out. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - The beer pours a crystal clear gold with a head that starts large but quickly recedes. While it never fully disappears, the foam becomes a thin film that clings to the glass. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - The hops are big with citrus and resin being the biggest two flavors. The malts are hard to find, getting drowned out by the intense hoppiness of the beer. It smelled sweet but the bitterness is not allowing any of that to show up. As you swallow the beer, its bitterness lingers on the back of your tongue. |
Score: 15/20 |
Mouthfeel - It has a thin-medium body with medium+ carbonation. |
Score: 3/5 |
Overall Impression - I love Firestone Walker and all of their hoppy offerings are beers I could drink any time and be happy. This one missed the mark of its siblings by a decent margin. The body and sweetness both didn't have enough power to support this beer's hoppiness. The hop flavor was actually very nice, it just dominated. |
Score: 7/10 |
