Justin:
Aroma - Big bourbon comes out first with big chocolate behind it and some slight oak notes. There are some nice vanilla notes from the barrel. Very nice vanilla the more I smell it but that bourbon is huge. |
Score: 11/12 |
Appearance - It pours a viscous, opaque black with a tan head that starts small and sticks around as a slick film, leaving nice lacing. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - The oak is actually one of the first things that I get from the beer and its awesome. The chocolate is big but again, the bourbon is bigger. There is some huge vanilla that rounds it out as well. There's a little bit of dark cherry as it warms up as well. It's a big, big, big beer with huge, bold flavors but they all work together very well. |
Score: 18/20 |
Mouthfeel - The body and carbonation are both medium and the beer is quite creamy. |
Score: 5/5 |
Overall Impression - It threw me for a loop to see a bourbon barrel stout in a 12 ounce can. I was incredibly surprised with everything about this one. Aroma was awesome and the flavor was even better. Although this one was a limited release, I can't imagine that F & G's regular lineup isn't solid. I'll be looking for their beers again in the future. |

Blake:
Aroma - Sweet and boozy with a lot of the Bourbon characteristics right out in front. There is some really great chocolate and vanilla that evens out the alcohol burn from the Bourbon. |
Score: 11/12 |
Appearance - Big, black, and viscous. It has a small mocha head that leaves great lacing. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - This beer is all dark malts and barrel character. The dark malts give a nice roast and chocolate presence, while the barrel brings a lot heat from the booze and some great oak and vanilla. The flavor on this one isn't for lightweights. |
Score: 18/20 |
Mouthfeel - Body is full bodied with medium carbonation giving a thick and smooth mouthfeel. |
Score: 5/5 |
Overall Impression - Can I bring this to every event that won't let me bring bottles? It's great to get something like this that is usually found in larger format. I didn't make it to Finkel & Garf when I was in Boulder last time, and now I'm kicking myself. This beer ensured I won't be making that mistake again. |
Score: 9/10 |
