Justin:
Aroma - Slightly roasty with huge dark malt character of cocoa powder and caramel or molasses. No hop aromas present. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - The beer pours deep brown and has a thick mocha head comprised of tight, tiny bubbles, nearly reminiscent of a nitro. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - There is some great dark fruit character of raisin that comes with a caramel roastiness (darn near a toasted marshmallow type of flavor). There are some hops that come across as slightly resninous but are better described as "spicy" and bring the beer into a wonderful balance. |
Score: 17/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation, full bodied, creamy, and finishes smooth. |
Score: 5/5 |
Overall Impression - Goo! This was a pleasant surprise. When the aromas were in harmony with the flavors, it made for a great drinking experience. The unexpected component was the mouthfeel. The creaminess and body of Southside Stout is how every stout should aspire to be. Handsdown, I say this is a steal for a local stout and would recommend it all day long. |
