Best Quote During Tasting
Pilsners and lagers are like the old rhombus and square deal.
Aroma - Grassy and floral hops greet you first, followed by cracker-like grains and perhaps even a bit of corn. A deeper sniff will get you some brief lemony citrus.
Appearance - The beer is a crystal clear (extremely clear) straw gold with a thin, tightly bubbled white head that stays on top of the beer as you drink it.
Flavor - The malts are the first thing to hit your palate with sweet, white bread and water cracker notes. The hops quickly follow and while well-balanced, are fairly strong in their own right. The flavors are a little citrus but mostly floral and again grassy. The biggest contribution they make is the lingering bitterness that hits the back of your tongue and sticks around until you take your next sip.
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is medium-high and the body is medium. The bubbles do a great job of scrubbing your palate as you drink.
Overall Impression - Why do people rate these styles so low?!?!?! I don't get it. For a pilsner, it hits a lot of the flavors, aromas and every other thing it's supposed to. I could sip this beer all day on a float trip or just because I feel like having a few on a nice Saturday. The hop character was big without being overpowering and I could see some macro drinkers thinking it's even a little much. Great pilsner.
