It's not even funny though because clowns ALWAYS wear makeup.
Aroma - Floral and spicy hops mingle with toasted malts and bread crust notes. There is also some faint caramel that puts a nice spin on things but doesn't take charge.
Appearance - The beer is a very clear light-medium amber with a fluffy white head. The bubbles in the foam are tight and stick to the glass leaving behind nice webbing.
Flavor - It's sweeter than I anticipated but not cloyingly so. The hops kind of let the malts do their thing with big, big bread crust smacking your tongue. There's also some caramel but I'll be damned if you can drink this without thinking "bread crust." The hops do play their part to balance without imparting too much flavor. What they do contribute is some spiciness and floral character that shake things up without taking over.
Mouthfeel - The body is medium+ and the carbonation matches it. It's very nice and feels pillowy on the tongue.
Overall Impression - So this one was good but for reasons I didn't expect. I like Oktoberfests with a little higher ABV to help cut through the sweetness. I really liked the sweetness on this one though. The malts were incredible and this is a very, very, very good example of why Oktoberfests are paired with grilled sausages and other meats. The melanoidin character in this beer will pair perfectly with any seared meat you pull of the grill.
