It's what a Scottish Batman would wear.
Justin:
Aroma - It's nutty with a nice chocolate backbone. There's no hops to be found and a toasted bread crust sneaks in the back. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - Deep brown, nearly black with a head that starts big and never goes away. The head is brown and it clings to the glass as it falls to a thin, slick film. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - It's quite nutty with a big alcohol presence. There is a lot of chocolate here compared to the aroma and the hops are a little resinous and work wonders on the balance. |
Score: 17/20 |
Mouthfeel - The oats work amazingly in boosting the body which comes across as medium+ and the carbonation is medium. It's crazy creamy and just what I look for in an imperial stout. |
Score: 5/5 |
Overall Impression - As a homebrewer, getting your beer made on a big scale so people can try it isn't just a dream, it's the dream. Eric Stolze and Jenny Kezele were lucky enough to have Excel brew their beer (which is somewhat of a local legend in the homebrew community) and it's a good one to bring to the masses. While I wish the aroma was a little bigger, all other aspects of the beer were awesome and I'm definitely going to buy another. |

Blake:
Aroma - Deep roasted malts, chocolate, and a bit of oatmeal give Jenny O's a rich aroma. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - Deep dark brown with a deep tan head that leaves lacing down the wall of the glass. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Once again those roasted malts and chocolate lead the way, giving this stout a sweet backbone. There is a bit of grain that brings out some nutty flavors as well as some toasted grains. |
Score: 17/20 |
Mouthfeel - Very smooth, on the low end of full bodied with medium carbonation. |
Score: 5/5 |
Overall Impression - First off kudos to Excel for bringing this beer to the masses. Secondly, this is a damn good imperial stout. Don't miss out on it, if you see a bottle of it, pick it up (preferably pay for it), and take it home and drink it. We'll understand if you want seconds. |
