I can't do Kevin Spacey.
Justin:
Aroma - Earthy and spicy hops come out first followed by some perfumy/floral hops. The malts that I'm picking up remind me of sweet wheat bread. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - This one pours a hazy, light gold with a vibrant white head that lingers and is made up of tight, bright bubbles. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Earthy and floral hops are most prominent but not overwhelming. The hops are pungent and bitter but well balanced. There is also some pine notes from the hops which I didn't get on the nose. Finally, there are some tropical fruits like pineapple that come through nicely. |
Score: 16/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium+ carbonation and a medium body give this one a "soft" feel. |
Score: 5/5 |
Overall Impression - This one definitely falls under the category of "different." It's only for that reason that I'd say this one wasn't necessarily for beginners. The hops in it are well balanced so if you have a buddy that's "new to craft" have them take a sip to see what happens. I can't wait to try the Brett version of this beer to see what happens when the earthly hops mix with that funky brett yeast. |

Aroma - Bready malts blends nicely with earthy, floral, and spicy hops. There is some sweetness present, think a bit of honey and citrus. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - Golden orange in color with a beautiful white head that leaves some great lacing. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - The honey and citrus notes I picked up in the aroma are stronger in the flavor. The main star here is the earthy and floral hops. The mix of the hops and citrus notes give it a slightly bitter-sweet flavor. Together with the bready malt backbone, this beer is really well balanced. |
Score: 17/20 |
Mouthfeel - It's got a great solid body, with enough carbonation to give it a slick velvety feel in the finish. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - It's been a while since I've done a beer trip to KC, and there are a lot of great breweries like Crane that have popped up in that time. Just trying a few of these beers is making me think I need to have a trip planned to KC sometime this summer. Luckily, you can find this IPA right here in St. Louis. It's a bit different than your normal shelf IPA, so go in with an open mind. |
