Justin:
Aroma - Milk chocolate, subtle alcohol.....and.....that's about it. |
Score: 8/12 |
Appearance - The beer pours a deep brown with a light brown head that is thin, yet dense, and doesn't leave the top of the beer. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Slap you in the face, super chocolate. It's alarmingly tootsie roll-esque. Outside of that, there's a little roastiness and some vanilla. |
Score: 14/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation with a medium body makes this one slightly creamy. Plays well with the chocolate theme. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - The way they brewed this, it could've been a chocolate anything. There wasn't much Belgian character to be found and that was the most disappointing part of this beer. They could use the same chocolate in a brown ale or stout or damn near anything and it'd be similar. That aside, it was a good beer that would pair well with dessert. |

Aroma - Smells a bit like a boozy chocolate shake. One whiff and you can tell this has a relatively high ABV. There is also some dark fruit characteristics that linger behind the strong chocolate smell. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - Deep murky brown with a tan head. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Chocolate, just tons of chocolate, and a bit of alcohol. There is a slight bite from the alcohol, which is pretty common in Quads. Dark fruits I got in the aroma strike me more as raisins in the flavor, with just a slight bit of vanilla. |
Score: 17/20 |
Mouthfeel - Medium body with low to medium carbonation. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - I truly love this beer. It isn't the most masculine beer you'll ever try, but it's a really well done dessert beer. I get just enough Belgian Quad character before the beer just hits me over the head with chocolate. It probably isn't something for everyone, but it's a killer beer to have with some leftover Valentine's chocolates. I try and get a growler every year, and it always leaves me satisfied. |
