Best Quote During Tasting
As soon as these kids get outta here we can talk like adults.
Aroma - The malt isn't messing around on this one: Coffee, chocolate, toasted almonds and chalkiness all come through from dark malts. The hops are subtle but come through as slightly earthy.
Appearance - The beer pours a clear, medium brown. A huge, beige head with tight, thick bubbles floats on top.
Flavor - There's some smokiness or umami flavor present, with some dark malt character of chocolate. Surprisingly, there's no coffee in the flavor but there is some caramelly sweetness that plays well with the earthy hops.
Mouthfeel - Dry finish, medium carbonation, medium+ body.
Overall Impression - I was very happy with this beer. It's pleasant to have some more earthy hops in this as opposed to the US resin and citrus hops that are dominating 99% of the beers we drink today. This is the second beer we've reviewed from Bur Oak and I can definitively say it won't be the last. I'm excited to see what else they have to offer.
