This guy's over here making more boner jokes.
Aroma - This one has loads of yeast character jumping out. There's predominantly an amazing bubblegum that you get first. After that, you get some white pepper. The other things are all malts with chocolate and prunes being the big players.
Appearance - The beer is a clear, medium brown with a thin, sparkling white head that starts small and never disappears.
Flavor - Again, the yeast are the big players in this one. That same bubblegum is there but a new component, banana is there as well. After the yeast passes by, the malts pitch in flavors of big caramel as well as prunes and plums. It's not overly sweet and is very well balanced with the alcohol barely noticeable.
Mouthfeel - The body on this one was medium while the carbonation was a little brighter at medium+. Overall, there's a nice liveliness to it but I'd prefer it to be just a bit more creamy to work a little better with the big malts.
Overall Impression - We've reviewed the 2012 version of this beer and we've also reviewed the 2014 version. While they were all great beers, the 2012 was my favorite. The 2016 had some amazing flavors that popped from the yeast that the others didn't, it also didn't have the crazy maltiness that made the other years just a bit better in my opinion. This is consistently called the "best beer in the world," and while it is delicious, I'm not sure the moniker fits. With all that being said, I will be getting more and I will make sure I drink them when they hit their peak....4 years from now.
