Of course I feel bad for Cubs fans. Still doesn't mean I want them to win this thing.
Aroma - This one is nearly all hops with just a little bit of white bread maltiness coming in behind it. The hops are big but they're not "in your face" so to speak. They smell floral and fruity with decent citrus character with grapefruit being the main player.
Appearance - The beer is crystal clear and appears watery as you swirl it in the glass. The rocky, white foam is made up of large bubbles that stay perched on top of the beer as you drink it.
Flavor - The hops again aren't in your face but just because they don't overwhelm doesn't mean they're not big on flavor. Big juiciness from the fruit character and that floral quality rounds it out nicely. The malts are definitely more perceptible here and are grainy and like wheat bread or lightly toasted white bread. The finish on this one is slightly dry but it gives it a nice crisp quality.
Mouthfeel - The body is medium and the carbonation is medium+. It's very nice and the drier finish coupled with the carbonation give you a tongue scrubbing feel with each sip.
Overall Impression - The first thing I said after my first sip was "wow!" I didn't expect the body on this one based on how thin it looked in the glass. That's one of the bigger complaints I have with session IPAs because the body can't support the big hoppiness and it feels out of balance. This was one of the better session IPAs I think I've ever had.
Fun Fact: This is a reformulation and rebranding of their "Pop-up Session IPA." During a recent rebranding, they took a step back from their "Trailer Park" themed names and went a different direction. Also, yes, I said "reformulation" so don't let your buddy tell you it's the same beer as Pop-Up.
