Justin:
Aroma - Very strong Belgian yeast character dominates the aroma: white pepper and bubblegum. The yeast is unsuccessfully challenged by sweet bread and pie crust malts with hops staying out of the picture. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - The beer is very clear and light gold in color with a fluffy pillow of a white head. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - The yeast again steals the show with a lot of bubblegum and slightly less white pepper. The overall tone of the beer is "sweet" because of the yeast and malts with hops not really showing up big. The malts are pie crust and white bread with the subtlest of toasted character there if you look for it. |
Score: 16/20 |
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is very high and the body is medium. It's crisp and finishes just above semi-dry. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - This is a great example of how yeast can influence a beer. All of that bubblegum flavor and aroma gave an extra perception of sweetness to the beer that was actually quite pleasant. Is it a beer I'd buy regularly? Probably not. But I would definitely seek it out if someone asked me to put together some food/beer pairings. |
