Justin:
Aroma - This was aged for a year in Rally Point whiskey barrels from StilL 630 and you can tell with the first whiff. Right up front, it's a lot of whiskey booziness. I can pull out a little caramel and chocolate if I really look for it. Surprisingly no smoke. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - Completely opaque and black with a tan, thin head. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - I think there's beer in this whiskey. In all seriousness though, this is super boozy but not overwhelmingly so. Some vanilla and chocolate sweetness and a big alcohol warmth verging on fusel. |
Score: 16/20 |
Mouthfeel - Thin mouthfeel. Was expecting more body. Medium carbonation. |
Score: 3/5 |
Overall Impression - It was very boozy but still good overall. While the smoke wasn't there, the whiskey was pleasant. Truth be told, this was my first encounter with a beer from Alpha. I haven't picked anything of theirs off the shelves at my local bottle shop and I haven't made it to their brewery just yet. After trying this beer, I'm intrigued and will definitely see what other offerings they have. |

Blake is busy getting tan in Mexico to celebrate his recent wedding! Congrats! For now, you'll have to put up with just reading Justin's reviews. Blake will make sure to update this post when he returns to include his thoughts on this beer.
