Justin:
Aroma - Sulfur is the first thing that comes up with light, lemon citrus behind it. There is a brief tartness but it doesn't linger. There isn't much beyond that but what's there is quite nice. |
Score: 9/12 |
Appearance - A very hazy, pale straw with a thin white head that doesn't leave lacing but sits nicely on top of the beer. |
Score: 2/3 |
Flavor - The lemon is mouth puckering but the overall flavor from it is tart. That's the dominant player here, as it should be so it doesn't leave much room for anything else. The salinity is quite strong but it's not in any way overwhelming so it really adds to the refreshing quality of the beer. This one also has a nice, clean finish so it's definitely refreshing. |
Score: 17/20 |
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is high and and the body is medium which makes it light and mouth-tingling. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - The lemon flavor was awesome and the salinity was big but nice. I just wish there was a little bit more lemon flavor. Not because the beer needed it but because I wanted it. It's on the verge of being an alcoholic lemonade and I really enjoyed that angle. Going forward, I'll be keeping some around for the hot days we'll continue to have through December. |

Blake:
Aroma - Lots of sulphur right up front, with a good amount of lemon citrus behind it. The yeast really comes out strong in this one with a tangy zesty aroma that is amplified by the base elements of the gose. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - Hazy straw color with a thin white head. |
Score: 2/3 |
Flavor - Incredibly well balanced with just the right amount of tartness from the lemon citrus, immediately leveled out by the salinity from the sea salt. There is a bit of sweetness from the coriander that really blends well with the bready notes in the malts that hide behind the stronger flavors. |
Score: 17/20 |
Mouthfeel - The body is medium, but heavier than expected with a high carbonation that gives this one a bright mouthfeel. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - I just love this style. This and Suburban Beverage from Perennial are two incredibly fantastic representations of the style. I could drink both of them all day long, and I could use them as excuses to take a beach trip. They also make great entry points for anyone looking to get into sours. Doesn't mean it's for everyone, but might be a good starting point. |
Score: 8/10 |
