Best Quote During Tasting
After that I realized that if "the worst of both worlds" isn't a phrase, it should be.
Aroma - Citrus hops come out stronger than the lime. The lime is definitely there but take a back seat to the citrus (orange/grapefruit) hops. The malts are white bread.
Appearance - This one is a light gold and somewhat hazy. The white head starts small and stays that way, although it never leaves.
Flavor - The hops are a lot more resinous than they were in the nose. The lime makes it a little mouth puckering although the citrus from it mixes with the citrus from the hops. As it warms, it becomes a little more bright with the citrus.
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is just below medium and the carbonation is medium.
Overall Impression - 4 Hands is really trying to corner the market on STL Summer beers and they're doing a good job. First City Wide and now this? The beer is refreshing as hell and you could drink more than a few of them poolside. Next time you don't know what to pick when you're in the beer aisle, throw a 4-pack of this in your cart and you won't be disappointed.
Aroma - There is a bit of lime, but it comes off more as lime zest than actual key lime. The hop profile of the beer still comes through strong, as well as the wheat characteristics.
Appearance - Pale and hazy yellow with a firm white head.
Flavor - Resin and citrus from the hops are very up front, and there is a bit of lime, but not as much as would be expected from something that bills itself as a key lime beer. The beer can handle more lime to battle out some of the other citrus, wish it had been more present.
Mouthfeel - Light in body with medium carbonation.
Overall Impression - I had the pleasure last year of trying Pineapple Contact High, and so I came into this one with high hopes. The experience was a bit of a let down, it isn't a terrible beer but I was expecting the fruit to be a bit more forward. I'll keep crossing my fingers for more Pineapple Contact High in the meantime.
