Dakeen? Dakine?
Justin:
Aroma - The pineapple is insanely big. Crazy big. The overall aroma is of juicy tropical fruits and all of them are there: Mango, tangerine, apricot, orange, the aforementioned pineapple, peach and even lemon. The malts are hiding behind all that fruit but you can capture a sweetness beyond the fruit. |
Score: 10/12 |
Appearance - The color of this one is quite light, I'd call it a straw-gold. It's nearly clear but not all the way there. The head is tight and made up of very tight, small bubbles that sit on top of the beer for as long as you're drinking it. |
Score: 3/3 |
Flavor - Damn this pineapple is big. It's got a very nice balance and most of it is focused on that huge tropical fruit. The same players in the nose are here too with no new players. There's a slightly soapiness to the flavor that I can see as being from that pineapple as well and the malts are like a sweet, biscuity crescent roll. The hops are there but that typical IPA bitterness is missing. |
Score: 16/20 |
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is medium and and the body is medium which makes it sit heavy on the tongue yet go down smooth. |
Score: 4/5 |
Overall Impression - This one was a bit of a brain-buster. Without telling me this was an IPA, I would guess it's a plain old pale ale. It was lacking a punching bitterness that you expect from a typical IPA. That may be my only complaint on this one though. It's quite drinkable and could be a ridiculous summer crusher. At 6%, it's no slouch either so don't get too carried away. |
Score: 8/10 |
