Six Mile Bridge has been steadily growing in popularity in St. Louis since they opened in 2015. Brewing Gold Medal winning beers and having a great selection of both new and traditional styles in rotation will do that for a brewery. It comes then as no surprise that for their first barrel aged release, SMB didn't want to just throw any beer in a barrel and see what happened. They wanted the best recipe and ingredients and no beer would touch a barrel until they found it. Well, find it they did and that beer is ready for a release this month.
Hearkening back to his home country of South Africa, Head Brewer/Co-Owner, Ryan Sherring and the rest of the Six Mile Bridge team are excited to announce the release of a new line of limited edition barrel-aged beers entitled, The Big Five Series.
Each beer style will feature one of the famed South African Big Five game animals: Cape buffalo, black rhino, elephant, leopard and lion. Brewer, Ryan Sherring drew his inspiration from the bold characteristics and tenacity of each game animal and plans to produce styles that are full-bodied and complex as well as subtle and unique.
The first in this series, called The Reverent, features the critically endangered black rhino. It is a 13% ABV imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels on Indian vanilla beans and will be released in May 2017 in wax-dipped 750mL bottles costing $20 each. The release is limited to 3 bottles per person and those interested can reserve their bottles by visiting their website.
We'll be sure to post a review of this beer before it gets released so keep your eye out for when that goes live!
