Brewery: Urban Chestnut |
Location: St. Louis, MO |
Name of Beer: Orange Radler |
Beer Style: Radler |
ABV: 4.8% |
Our Thoughts: If you've spent any amount of time in St. Louis during June, July or August, you know it can get pretty unbearable outside. Heck, it's 100 degrees outside right now! That's why we're glad to see that Urban Chestnut will be graciously offering us a new orange radler, the perfect summer thirst quencher Originating in Deisenhofen Germany and created by innkeeper Franz Kugler to stretch out his beer supply for thirsty cyclists from the nearby bicycle trail, the original radler was a blend of 50/50 lager beer (usually helles or pilsner) and lemon soda. Urban Chestnut has opted to flavor their radler with orange. Frankly, we're excited to see this, as most breweries use lemon or grapefruit. If the heat has got you down, head over to UCBC for a beer and a slice of pizza. That will put some pep in your step. |

Brewery: Charleville |
Location: St. Louis, MO |
Name of Beer: Bellows Shake |
Beer Style: Marzen |
ABV: 6.0% |
Our Thoughts: Upon seeing this new beer from Charleville, our thoughts turn from the hot, wretched summer to the cool, inviting fall and with it, Oktoberfest! First held in 1810 to celebrate the wedding of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese von Sachsen Hildburghausen and lasting for 5 days, this became an annual event celebrating autumn, agriculture, harvest and most importantly, beer! The beer style typically associated with Oktoberfest is marzen, a medium bodied lager with toasted caramel notes, noble Bavarian hops and a clean finish. If you can't make it to Germany, a stein of Bellows Shake will surely make you think you're there. Get your lederhosen ready now, because it will be here before you know it. Prost! |

Brewery: Main and Mill |
Location: Festus, MO |
Name of Beer: Trail of Totality |
Beer Style: Tart Wheat Beer |
ABV: 5.5% |
Our Thoughts: In case you haven't heard, something pretty fantastic is happening on August 21st. A total solar eclipse, the first to be seen in Missouri in 148 years, will occur and most likely leave many people awestruck. To commemorate this historic occasion, Main and Mill are releasing Trail of Totality, a wheat beer brewed with black raspberries and blackberries. Looking through the list of Main and Mill's previously brewed beers, it's obvious they aren't afraid to experiment and have a deft hand at any style they choose to brew, so we're pretty sure Trail of Totality will be worth your while. If you're in Festus to view the eclipse, grab a 750 ml bottle of Trail of Totality and settle in for the show, as the city has a whole weekend of events planned at West City Park. |

Brewery: Martin City |
Location: Kansas City, MO |
Name of Beer: Revenge of the Dragon |
Beer Style: Nitro Stout |
ABV: 5.1% |
Our Thoughts: Since 2011, Martin City has been churning out suds for thirsty Kansas Citians. Having a fondness for Belgian beers, they pay homage to their classic styles while showing the innovative spirit of craft beer by putting their own signature stamp on their brews. We recently got to try their Belgian Style Abbey Ale and we have to say, it is a spot on example of the style and downright delicious. While Revenge of the Dragon isn't a Belgian style beer, we know that Martin City can execute flawlessly whatever style they choose to brew. Plus, being a nitro stout, it's almost as fun to pour as it is to drink! Look for this on shelves soon. |
