After the recent Nine Network/Feast TV Beer Creation Event in collaboration with 4 Hands (read all about it here) a winner was chosen. The wining mixture was a Cucumber Gose with Hibiscus and Himalayan Salt. Mmmmmmmm. If it sounds good, that’s because the concoction the judges tasted was good, beating out the other 7 entered recipes.
Now it’s time for the second part of this community craft concept: Giving this beer a name!
From now through Thursday, May 11th, you, (Yes, you. Not the metaphorical you or something but you, the person reading this right now) can name this beer! Potential names can be submitted through Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #ninebeer. All submitted names will be reviewed by judges and a list of favorites will be rolled out from May 12 – May 18 for people to vote on. The person who submits the winning name will get to brew the beer alongside the winning creation event team under the guidance of the brewers at 4 Hands. If that weren’t enough, they’ll also receive tickets to the beer release at 4 Hands on August 6th!
Tips for Submitting a Potential Winner
Make it Original
Last year’s event saw hundreds of entries for this naming contest so the judges that will narrow choices down (I was again lucky enough to be one of them) have seen a little bit of everything. However, we mostly saw a bunch of “9” themed names (hell, Cloud 9 won) so enter those knowing they’ve likely been seen: “Nine Lives,” “Back Nine,” “Front Nine,” “Dressed to the Nines,” etc. Lots of “Brewers Like You,” and “Viewers Like Brew” stuff was submitted due to the Nine Network’s involvement, too.
Have Fun But Keep It Appropriate
Everyone can take an innuendo here and there but I can promise you that a finalist will not be a name that uses the “laya” piece of “Himalaya” as a punchline. Puns are amazing but dirty stuff is probably gonna get a chuckle and then tossed aside. Something goofy like “Gosey McGoseface” could win but submitting it would be futile because Saint Brewis has made that our first and only entry.
The bottom line is one of you reading this could be naming and brewing a commercial beer in the next couple of weeks. HOW FRIGGIN’ AWESOME IS THAT!
Good luck and again, submit those names via Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #ninebeer by May 11th in order to get your name submitted!
