It’s hard to believe that Heavy Riff Brewing Company has been open since September 2013. Both because it feels like it can’t possibly be that long ago and also because it kinda feels like they’ve always been around. Producing a wide range of beer styles for the Dogtown neighborhood has made loyal customers out of many but their reach was still confined to the folks that walked into their Clayton Avenue brewery. That reach is set to get a lot bigger.
Starting this summer, fans of Heavy Riff will finally be able to drink some of their beers all throughout the Greater St. Louis area. Show Me Beverages (formerly Bevolution) will be the distributor responsible for delivering the popular Velvet Underbrown as well as the brewery’s newest offering, Squeezebox Lemon Wheat beginning the week of June 26. “We wanted to start off with a beer that our long-time fans would recognize as well as a brand new beer that really captures the essence of summer,” explains Owner, Rick Hagen. “Hoppy beer lovers only need to wait a little bit longer until we release Prison Bound (Pale Ale) and Left Coast Envy (IPA).”
Since one piece of big news isn’t enough, Heavy Riff is also announcing the hiring of Dave ‘Panda’ Scarmana as their Director of Sales and Marketing. “We’ve been friends with Panda since before we opened,” says Brewmaster, Jerid Saffell. “We were looking for somebody who’s not only passionate about beer but is also familiar with the St. Louis beer scene.” From 2009 to 2013, Scarmana had been a brewer and brand ambassador for Charleville Brewing Company based out of Ste. Genevieve, MO.
Congrats to all parties involved as the STL beer scene continues to expand at breakneck speeds.
Cheers!
