Drinking beer in an office. While it’s a sure-fire way to get sent to HR, Andy Hille (pronounced Hilly) is encouraging you to do just that. Andy isn’t a bad influence that wants you to get a pink slip, he’s actually the head brewer and co-owner of Rockwell Beer Company (coming to STL in the spring of 2017). And the office he wants you to drink in isn’t yours, it’s his. As Andy explains, “Our business operations are based out of the TechArtista Coworking Community and we we’re lucky enough to have an adjacent office space become available. Creativity is so important to us and TechArtista, so we recognized the potential of the space, knew we had to do something, even if it is for just a few short months.”
This converted office has been dubbed “Club Rockwell” and has a handful of chairs, a single bluetooth speaker playing music, some dim lighting and a kegerator with two tap handles. Those taps will be pouring the latest Rockwell Beer Company brews for your drinking pleasure.
Club Rockwell gives us the ability to try out new recipes with an engaged group every week, but we also get to connect with people on a very personal level. It gives us the ability to curate our culture and share it with others, which to us is everything. Right now, we are producing on an almost comedically small scale, but I believe it gives great insight to the future feel of the Rockwell Tasting Room and Retail Store which will be opening up next Spring. It’s also crucial for us as a business that we never take anything too seriously. We’re not making any money on the space, but the experience that we are sharing with the people of St. Louis is invaluable. – Andy Hille, Rockwell Beer Company
Each Wednesday, in the TechArtista building off of Washington in the CWE (map here), the $25 cover to enter Club Rockwell includes a cocktail, two different beers, a pin welcoming you as an official member and a souvenir glass. If you’re thinking it’ll be crowded, you’re partially right. While the seating is limited, the invites are too. The Club is open each week for both a 5:30pm and a 7:30pm tasting and each session is only has a total of 10 tickets available.
The atmosphere there is very relaxed and you’ll be enjoying your brews with like-minded folks who are equally excited about the opportunity to try beers before they’re commercially available. Also, Andy himself will be on hand pouring the beers so it’ll be a great chance to meet the mind behind the city’s next big brewery.
An exclusive tasting of pre-released beers that you drink alongside the man who makes them? No thanks. – No Beer Geek Ever
We know you’re excited about this and since we’ve already attended and tried a couple of the beers, we can confirm that you definitely should be. The “Meringue” we had was an IPA brewed with lactose sugar, lemon and vanilla. At 7.2% ABV, it went down very easy and had a great body to it. The stout on tap, “1HUNNID,” was an imperial sweet stout with rye and oats. The oats gave it some soft nuttiness and the rye gave it complexity. Both were awesome and the cocktail we had was killer, too.
The next party at Club Rockwell is Wednesday, November 9th and Andy is giving away free tickets to attend to one lucky winner and a guest of their choice! The winner will choose whether they want to go to the 5:30pm or 7:30pm tasting. To enter, see the details below, contest ends at 11:59pm Monday the 7th. If you don’t want to leave your attendance up to chance, please visit https://rockwellbeer.bazaarpass.com/products/club-rockwell-6 to purchase your tickets now.
