Conceived out of a love for craft beer and small-batch sauces, Andrew “The Beer Guy” Tessmer and Rick “The Sauce Guy” Duree will open BeerSauce Shop, a craft beer & craft sauce retail experience with a taste-before-you-buy philosophy, in St. Peters in May.
We featured one of the company's "BeerSauce Boxes" on the site in January (read about that here) and this is the next phase of their operation.
Duree, a successful retail entrepreneur and self-proclaimed sauce addict, first had the idea to open a sauce-tasting bar and shop in 2015. “There isn’t a sauce I won’t taste to satisfy my craving,” Duree said. “I’ve bought all kinds of sauces, but some of them left me uninspired. I needed a place where I could taste the sauce before I bought it.”
Tessmer, a craft beer mediapreneur and co-founder of St. Charles County Craft Beer Week, had a dream to open a community-focused bottle shop and tasting bar in St. Charles County. “I love the community that beer creates,” Tessmer said. “And I wanted to create a place where beer lovers could stop in to pick up a few bottles and wind up sticking around and having great beer tasting experiences with fellow beer lovers.”
Having worked together on other entrepreneurial ventures, Tessmer and Duree decided to mash their ideas and passions together to create BeerSauce Shop. The 2,300 sq-ft space, located at 318 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, will feature two “dueling” tasting bars and corresponding retail departments. The Beer Bar will feature eight rotating taps and offer pint and flight fills, while The Sauce Bar will feature a rotating selection of the shops’ 250 sauces, rubs and glazes for guests’ tasting pleasure.
Tessmer will stock the package beer side of the shop with a rotating, curated list of more than 500 craft beers, with around half of the inventory being refrigerated.
“We’ll focus on giving shelf space to local breweries first and then work with our distributors to add regional and nationally distributed brands,” Tessmer said. “And, because we’ve formed great relationships with local breweries like Missouri Beer Company, expect some BeerSauce Shop collaboration beers on tap.”
Duree will stock the sauce side of the shop with a personally-selected assortment of 250 small-batch BBQ sauces, hot sauces, rubs and glazes. With a focus on house-branded sauces, expect a limited release whiskey barrel-aged BBQ sauce and a moonshine mustard sauce in collaboration with Stumpy’s Spirits.
“I’m always looking for new amazing flavors, personally sampling thousands of sauces, rubs and glazes,” Duree said. “I do it because I love sauce, but mostly because I want to offer fellow flavor lovers the best of the best at BeerSauce Shop.”
In addition to craft beer and sauce, BeerSauce Shop will feature a Whiskey Lounge, with more than 25 small batch whiskies available for for both tasting and retail sale, and a BBQ Deck carrying the famed Big Green Egg smokers, and 200 cutting-edge BBQ tools from a variety of premier brands.
Ever focused on building and welcoming the community, BeerSauce Shop will host weekly flavor schools in the areas of beer, BBQ and whiskey led by renowned brewmasters, pitmasters and distillers.
