This is a series of unpretentious, yet thoughtful, beer reviews of beers brewed all over the world. Today’s potential BANGER is:
Tocobaga: Cigar City Brewing
Red India Pale Ales have always been a tough style for me get into. I’m not a huge fan of red/amber ales so hopping up that base can be hit or miss. Some have had beautiful herbal notes, caramel and delicious touches of hoppy bitterness other have…had not that.
The Look:
This beer pours a muddy amber color with a thin white head. The head clings to the sides of my glass immediately and remains as a creamy lace throughout the duration of beer.
The Nose:
A woodsy nose with pops of burnt sugar, snicker doodles and pine.
First Sip:
Light smokiness with pine, caramel and bread crusts. Bitterness isn’t aggressive but still present. The base is fairly sweet with very faint berry notes.
Warming Up:
The hops show themselves more and the bitterness is growing and welcome to do so. The slight “honey” sweetness behind this beers base needed something to balance it out and the hops came through just in the nick of time!
The Burp:
Bread Crust and honey bun city!
